My mother is a Mastrippolito. Her grandfather was Antonio Mastrippolito from Civitella Messer Raimondo. He was born in 1895 and came to the US through Ellis Island in 1914 with his uncle Petro. His fathers name is Nicolangelo or so it says on his papers but thats all we know about his father we do not know who his mother was. He had a brother Phillip born in 1897. He married my Grammy Vera Suhobrus (She was Russian) in 1925. They had 10 children 5 boys and 5 girls (pluse one who died at 6 months). Nicholas, Pauline, Vera, Anthony, Phillip, Helen, Rosie, Johnny, Jennie, Elenore, and Petie. He came and worked on the railroad then went on to work at Lukens Steel. Anyone with info please contact me!!

My grandfather in law is Joe D'Orazio...he emigrated from Civitella in the late 1930s and has been living in suburban Philadelphia with his bride Philomena (Mamie) Mashintonio. They just celebrated 70 years of marriage on 19 Oct 10. It's interesting how both D'Orazios and Mashintonios are from Civitella, and how the spelling of Mamie's last name has changed slightly.

Ciao to all those Di Guglielmo which I may be related to somehow down the line!! I am a grandchild of Nicola Di Guglielmo, which had a brother Michele Di Guglielmo, they both lived in Civitella Messer Raimondo. My grandfather married a lady Rosa, who is my grand mother, not too sure what her maiden name is but I do know she has a sister named Iola which still lives in Civitella Messer raimondo. I am wanted to know a bit of history of the Di Guglielmo families and if the names Nicola & Michele Di Guglielmo come to your parents or grandparents mind?? A very good friend of Angelo D'Orazio who also came to Australia a father of Luigi, Tony, Gianni, Mirella, and Rosa D'Orazio.

My grandfather was a clown back in his day, always laughing and joking around with everyone, making people laugh and still a funny man today, he has not changed one bit!!

I just found this website, and am interested in any information about my grandfather's family. My grandfather's name is Attilio Masciantonio. Thank you for any help! I hope to visit your city soon!

My father was born in LaFonte. He came to America in 1920 and much to my regret he never returned to the area. He passed away in 1989 after having lived in Pennsylvania. I to my good fortune was able to visit my relatives in Italy on several occasion. My uncle Pietro DiSebastiano and his wife Lucia DiSebastiano welcomed me and my wife to the area in 1995. Other relatives Nicola DiSebastiano and his family.
My cousin Primivera's. In all thirty some relatives treated us royally and provided some of my greatest pleasures in finally meeting families of my father. As I get older I more regret the fact that we didn't insist that my father return for a visit before he passed away. Thank you for providing the website with all the information about your wonder ful area of Italy.
I wouldn't be surprised if we aren't related. Grazie Giovanni

I am Maria D'Alessandro from Australia, daughter of Quirino D'Alessandro "di lu citolo" from contrata Gallo and Delia Di Medio "di lu buschitto" from Civitella Messer Raimondo.
Congratulations to Pietrino for his vision in providing those of us who are interested in researching our family roots with the opportunity to find our long lost relatives and paesani.
Through this site, I have met relatives and paesani from the USA, Canada and Italy.
Such contacts have resulted in a most exciting encounter with my D'Alessandro, Di Guglielmo and Di Medio second cousins in the USA early this year.
My daughter Jasmine and I travelled from Australia to the USA to share 3 wonderful weeks meeting our newfound cousins and paesani (the Simone family) met via this site over the last few years.
This has only served to enrich our lives providing a sense of completeness for all families here and in the USA. The mystery of those members of the family who migrated from Civitella to the USA in the early 1900's has now been resolved, and I would like to extend my gratitude to Pietrino for connecting all of us from around the world who are the descendants of the people of Civitella Messer Raimondo and who hold this quaint little village and friendly inhabitants, close to our hearts.
My parents and their peers also extend many thanks to Pietrino for being able to facilitate the reunion of families during THEIR lifetime.
This has provided a special sense of closure to our elders who were once from a very close knit community.

Bravissimo Pietrino!
Giorgio Rigon

Can you tell me anything about the picture: Concetta D'Orazio e Santina Masciantonio, foto D17 anno 1924. I think Concetta might be my grandmother's sister. My grandmother is Domenica D'Orazio who came to the US in 1921 and married Nicholas DeYuliis. Another picture I want to ask about is foto D02 anno 1903 Filippo D'Orazio. He might be my great-great-grandfather, Domenica's grandfather. One more: foto D08 anno 1950 Bambina D'Orazio. She might be Domenica's niece and Domenica's brother Alfonso's daughter. I would appreciate any information you can give me. Thank You

My mother Delia DI MEDIO came from Civitella and my father Quirino D'ALESSANDRO from a neighbouring "contrata" named Gallo. They migrated to Australia in 1957-58, my father arriving first and then my mother with my brother (4 years old) a year later. I was born in Australia in 1962 but am interested in researching my family's roots. I am interested in hearing from anyone who is connected with the family Di Medio sopranome "di lu buschitto" and D'Alessandro sopranome "di lu citolo". I speak and write Italian so please feel free to write to me in Italian. Would also like to hear from the descendants of Luigi D'ALESSANDRO (my grandfather Giuseppe's brother) who migrated to Philadelphia possibly in the late 1800's or early 1900's and never returned to Italy. His wife's name was possibly Arcisi and they had two children in the US, Peter and Edward. Cheers.

I was searching on the web for any information I can get on my maternal grandfather, Michele Masciantonio. He was born in Civitella Messer Aimondo in 1904 and left there with relatives in 1921 to come to Jeanette, Pennsylvania. His fathers name was Angelo and not sure of his mothers name. I do know he had a brother that went to Argentio when he came to the United States. His parents and siblings stayed in Italy. He married Lillian Marcenelli and had one daughter, Jean, they ended up living in a town called Glassport, PA. When my grandparents were alive they made a few trips back to Civitella to visit my gradfathers sisters and brothers. My grandfather passed away in 1983, and my grandmother in 1996 and I know he has to have relatives still living there. If there are any cousins of mine, I would love to email you. Or if anyone else knows of this family will you please email me.

I am attempting to put together as much information as I can and I would love to reach some family that I could email and learnmore about our family in Italy. My grandfather was Rinaldo DiValerio and my grandmother was Maria DiPietrantonio. Hopefully I have the correct guestbook. I would love to see some photos of the family in Italy as well as here in the states. Please feel free to contact me anytime. Thank you and I look forward to learning more. Ciao!

What a great web-site I just stumbled across! My parentsare from Civitella and from a core group of about 10 immigrantsin 1954 there are now probably a couple of hundred peoplethat can trace their roots back to Civitella living in this area. Some of the family names are Piacentino, Piergiovanni, D'Orazio, Masciantonio and my own, Di Guglielmo. And since my 93 year old grandmotherwill be with us this summer...I guess I'll be doing some serious geneology research! If there are any DiGuglielmo's around the world that would like to get in touch, pleasedo! Who knows what could turn up. Ciao!

I spend hours at this web site just looking at pictures of my family & there friends. I've visited Civitella 3 times in my life and everytime I arrive I feel I am home! I spend hours just walking about getting the flavor of this wonderful "Little City". We normally sleep at the piano in my Zia's home. But all the meals and gathering of the family is at Zia Rosa home in town. Again this is a wonderful site, keep up the great work.

Congratulations to Pietrino - He has done such an amazing thing putting together this marvellous site. I only hope that more Civitellesi around the world continue to discover this site. My father Alfonso Di Medio came from Civitella. He was born in 1928 and died in 1996 here in Melbourne, Australia. His parents were Filomena Masciantonio & Quido Di Medio. My father married in Civitella in 1955 to my mother Teresa Marrone who was born in Lama. They migrated to Melbourne Australia in 1955-1956.I am hoping to visit Civitella some time in 2002. I would be glad to hear from any long lost relatives, friends or paesani. Pietrino, congratulazione - hai fatto una cosa molto bella - grazie. Adesso tutti i Civitellesi per tutto il mondo saremo uniti. Ciao, Anna Maria (Di Medio) Spiezia.

What a wonderful site! These photos truly give you a feeling of what the times were like in Civitella pre and post wartime. My mother Delia Di Medio came from Civitella and my father Quirino D'Alessandro from Gallo. Cheers.

Bruno Colalongo ESFIAP
